Heartfelt wedding advice from a florist: what I’d do differently as a 2025 bride, from dance floor memories to color palettes, for a truly unforgettable day.

Weddings are a whirlwind of emotions, details, and dreams. As a florist who’s been lucky enough to witness countless “I dos” and as someone who’s walked down the aisle myself, I often find myself reflecting on my own wedding day. If I could do it all over again as a bride in 2025, there are a few heartfelt changes I’d make—choices inspired by the laughter, lessons, and love I’ve gathered along the way.
Whether you’re planning your own celebration or helping a loved one, I hope my honest reflections help you create a day that feels as joyful and genuine as it deserves to be.
Stay and Close Down the Dance Floor
One of my biggest regrets? Leaving my own wedding reception early. I’d always imagined the grand exit—sparklers and a car waiting to whisk us away. But in reality, I missed out on some of the most spontaneous, joy-filled moments that unfolded after I left. My best friend still tells me that my wedding is in her top five favorite life memories, but she also shares stories of late-night dance-offs and laughter that I wasn’t there to experience. If I were a 2025 bride, I’d throw away the timeline and stay until the very last song. I’d soak in every dance, every off-script moment, and every silly photo snap. The scheduled exit can wait; your memories are made in those unscripted hours with the people you love most.
Choose Your Overnight Stay with Intention
After the reception, I stayed at the hotel where the celebration was held. It seemed convenient at the time, but looking back, I wish I’d chosen a different spot—a cozy Airbnb, a charming bed and breakfast, or even just a quiet room away from the bustle. The transition from the high-energy festivities to a peaceful, private space can be a grounding moment for you and your partner. It’s a chance to savor those first quiet hours as newlyweds, away from the noise and excitement. Give yourself the gift of a restful, intentional space to reflect and unwind.
Design a Cohesive Color Palette
As a florist, color is my love language. When planning my wedding, I picked three favorite colors and hoped they’d magically blend together. In hindsight, I wish I’d approached my palette as a single, harmonious design. Think about the mood and feeling you want to evoke—soft and romantic, bold and modern, or natural and wild. Let your palette tell a story, weaving through your flowers, linens, and even your invitations. A thoughtful, cohesive design elevates every detail and makes the day feel beautifully curated and uniquely yours.
Embrace Imperfection and Spontaneity
Weddings rarely unfold exactly as planned—and that’s often where the magic lies. Some of my favorite memories (and my guests’!) were the unplanned ones: the impromptu karaoke, the flower girl’s twirls, the laughter that bubbled up when something went delightfully off-script. If I were planning my wedding now, I’d leave room for spontaneity. Trust your vendors, trust your people, and trust yourself to roll with the beautiful chaos. The best moments are the ones you never saw coming.
Savor the Small Moments
It’s easy to get caught up in the big picture—the perfect bouquet, the flawless timeline, the Instagram-worthy backdrops. But the soul of your wedding lives in the small, quiet moments: your partner squeezing your hand before the ceremony, your grandmother’s smile as she pins on her corsage, the way the sun glows through your bouquet. As you plan, carve out space to notice these details. They’re the memories that will linger long after the last petal has fallen.
If I could step back into my wedding day with the wisdom I have now, I’d linger longer, laugh harder, and let go of the need for perfection. Your wedding is a celebration of love, not a performance. Stay for the last dance, choose what feels right for you, and let your day unfold in all its beautiful, messy, heartfelt glory.
