January's Garden Rhythm
Share
You would think with snow on the ground and more brown than green in the garden that a farmer would have nothing to do this time of year.

Yet, this time of year is just as important for the garden as April's planting, July's watering, August's harvesting and October's putting it all in to rest for the winter.
Like the phases of the moon or the rise and flow of the tide, the rest required by my garden enables the beauty to flourish in the summer.
Similarly must we move in rhythm. If you've been feeling tired instead of motivated to conquer a new resolution, listen to your body and rest. January is a good month to show kindness to yourself.

If you have a garden or want to move slowly through this season, here are some things you can be working on this month.
- Make a plan - measure the garden space and plan out what you'd like to grow. We draw this out and use post-it notes so we can move around our plans as much as we need to.
- Order seeds - I recommend the following places to order your seeds - Johnnys, Renee's Seeds, and Baker Creek.
- Start seeds indoors. If you are interested in starting your flowers from seed, you can start snapdragons, sweet peas, and dill (we love dill as a beneficial plant to keep out pests and a filler in our bouquets). Don't get too excited and start anything else, though. Your hot weather lovers like zinnias, cosmos, and celosia won't get started for another month or so.

After taking some extended rest the past month I was able to sit down and reflect on what parts I really love about my job and what I want to do more of.
Three Berry Flowers will be returning to its roots of focusing on growing and providing you with the best quality flowers. I absolutely love my work as a floral designer and so I'll be writing more specifically moving forward around growing & designing flowers.
I will also be using this space to talk more about sustainable practices and growing a garden that focuses on bringing beauty and peace for your soul.
Thank you for partnering with my small business and growing with me as I learn how to evolve with this dream.
Comment below and let me know what you'd love to know about gardening or designing.
I have a good feeling about 2026 and am excited to take you along with me!
Cheers to our best garden year yet!
